Located in northern Veneto, only 44kilomètres from the Austrian border, this internationally renowned ski resort offers an absolutely extraordinary natural setting, which served as a backdrop for the film "For Your Eyes Only".
The town is located at an altitude of 1,210m, in the heart of the Dolomites. Near this famous resort is the Piccolo Lagazuoi, with its summit at 2,778m, highly sought by mountaineers for its steep faces.
The ski resort breaks down into five sectors, all connected to each other either by ski lifts or by shuttle or bus services: Faloria-Tondi, Cristallo, Tofana, Falzarego-Cinque Torri and Socrepes-Pocol. Cortina d'Ampezzo has 140kilomètres of pistes for skiing, over a 1,715m difference in elevation.
Although the majority of pistes are red or black, the ski area has something for beginner and expert skiers alike. For cross-country skiing, Cortina d'Ampezzo offers 75kilomètres of routes for all levels, with the longest at 30kilomètres.
The resort is well known for having put on the 1956 Winter Olympics.
The 1944 games were supposed to take place there, but were postponed due to the Second World War.
Lastly, Cortina d'Ampezzo offers a lively nightlife. It has five nightclubs and a piano bar.
