The charming Savoie village of Samoëns has been transformed from a traditional farming village into a fantastic ski resort - but it still retains its rustic feel and is equally well known for being home to incredibly talented stonemasons.

This listed village is filled with medieval fountains and old stone buildings, including an ancient church, and is also one of the best places from which to explore the Grand Massif mountain range. In only eight minutes from the village on the Grand Massif Express gondola you can access one of the finest and best preserved ski areas in France. Part of the Domaine du Grand Massif, Samoëns is linked to the resorts of Morillon, Flaine, Six fer à Cheval, and Les Carroz, and there are 265km of marked runs to explore. Some exceptional features on the Grand Massif which shouldn't be missed are, the 800m drop on untouched snow from the Combe de Gers, the 14km long piste from Flaine down to Sixt Fer à Cheval, and the Marvel slope that gives beginners a 5km run through ancient forest.

For some freestyle action there are three jamparks which everyone from beginners through to experts can enjoy.For alternative thrills on the snow, Samoëns has a wide choice. You can go ice climbing, speedriding, snowmobiling, or paragliding. And if those aren't adrenaline packed enough, why not try heli-skiing?
